When designer Laura Handler threw this link over our transom, we felt an instant breath of fresh air. Transported via the virtual tour of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s Casa Azul in Mexico City, we found ourselves wandering slowly through gardens, studios and living spaces, enthralled.
We were able to look closely at details in the twin houses connected by an elevated bridge…
…from the concrete and wood floors…to the collection of papier-mâché cartonería figures of humans, skeletons and animals to sublime paint colors and furniture to works-in-process…
…even the bathtub in Kahlo’s famous painting “Lo que el agua me dio/What the water gave me”…
…You can see what Kahlo saw as she lay in the tub. As well as the light.
The site, created by the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera Y Frida Kahlo, provides one of the most pleasurable escapes we’ve found from our disorienting quarantine.
